Some stories never leave you, so is the case with The Centipedes, once you read it. It is an alarming narration of the transformation of a family from innocent hand workers to cunning head spinners. It is beyond the imagination of a common man how far a bad man can go. How a father, whose daughter was gang-raped and killed, becomes so greedy that he insults the real life memories of our heroes, underestimates the sacrifice of Neerja style="margin-left:0in;text-align:justify;">It is a fiction with so much real things around that I remained restless for a few days after reading it. The varied experience of the author is there in the fiction, presently so simply and in a very low style="margin-left:0in;text-align:justify;">There are hilarious relief also in the fiction in the form of a politician who raises dirty slogans and a spineless classical singer, who licks your heel when put on the ground and your cheeks when kept in the style="margin-left:0in;text-align:justify;">Allahabad and Varanasi come alive in the fiction. I strongly recommend this book to every student of the University of Allahabad and every vagabond of style="margin-left:0in;text-align:justify;">I realised at some places that Ramayan Prasad, the lead character is crying but author didn’t want him to look weak and so didn’t write it in words. But the red drops on the glass pane of the window of the hotel in Varanasi and drizzles when he is in Laxmi Nagar of Delhi speak volume about his style="margin-left:0in;text-align:justify;">The end is abrupt but apt as Ramayan Prasad has no option as he is not in a position to write any story after witnessing such an ugly style="background-color:rgb(255,255,255);color:rgb(34,34,34);font-size:14pt;">Overall, it is a great story and author is clearly narrating it without boasting of it. देश की राजधानी में एक १९ वर्षीय लड़की के साथ सामूहिक बलात्कार उसके दोस्त के सामने होता है और उसकी हत्या हो जाती है. एक अख़बार इस कहानी को आगे लिखने का काम उसके रिपोर्टर रामायण प्रसाद को सौपता है. रामायण ऐशोआराम में रहने वाला रिपोर्टर है जो किसी कहानी में कभी नहीं उलझना है, उसपर लिख कर आगे बढ़ जाता है .
वह मान कर चलता है कि यह एक बड़ी घटना है और लड़की के घर वाले तथा अन्य लोग काफी दुखी तथा गुस्से में होंगे. वह लड़की के उत्तर प्रदेश के गांव आता है जहाँ उसकी मृत्यु के बाद की अंतिम धार्मिक प्रक्रिया होती है . रामायण प्रसाद पाता है की राज्य का मुख्य मंत्री इस घटना की आड़ में अपना राष्ट्रीय राजनैतिक भविष्य ढूंढता है; जिले का कलेक्टर बड़े नेताओं को खुश करने का एक माध्यम पा लेता है; लड़की का पिता इसे एक अवसर की तरह देखता है तथा दिल्ली में बड़े घर तथा पैसों की मांग करता है और लड़की का भाई नौकरी मांगता है, गांव के लोग इस घटना पर बेहद भद्दा नजरिया रखते style="background-color:rgb(255,255,255);color:rgb(34,34,34);font-size:small;">लड़की का दोस्त सरकार, लड़के के परिवार तथा पत्रकारों को ब्लैकमेल करता है क्योंकि वही एक इस घटना का एक मात्र गवाह है. इन सब के बीच रामायम प्रसाद को अपनी निरर्थकता महसूस होती style="background-color:rgb(255,255,255);color:rgb(34,34,34);font-size:small;">रामायण इस बीच अनेक लोगों से मिलता है जिनमे नेता, प्रोफेसर्स, लेखक, पुलिस अधिकारी, संपादक तथा अपराधी होते हैं. उसे लगता है कि ये सारे लोग अपने अपने तरीके से महिलाओं का अपमान करते हैं .
यह कहानी द सेंटीपीडस (The Centipedes , 130 page fiction ) के नाम से अंग्रेजी में लिखी गई है जिसे १६ या १८ एपिसोड में हिंदी में विकसित किया जा सकता है .
